director: Yoichi SAI
with: Takeshi KITANO, Kyoka SUZUKI
2004 | 35mm | 1:1.85 | 144 minutes

Director Yoichi SAI waited six years until actor Takeshi KITANO was available to play the lead part in this epic movie. It’s worth the wait because it’s hard to imagine someone else playing the alcoholic and frustrated character. KITANO plays one of the first Koreans who full of dreams takes the change to go to Japan. Almost immediately he loses himself in a world that’s not a thing like he expected.

Director SAI produces, after a few light movies, a tough and engaging drama which spans several decades, based on the Korean bestseller Chi to Hone by Sogiru YAN. After a very successful run at major Asian film festivals the movie is about to conquer Europe.
