May 27 and 28 2005, Bioscoop Het Ketelhuis, Amsterdam
director: Tetsuya NAKASHIMA
with: Kyoko FUKADA, Anna TSUCHIYA
2004 | 35mm | 103 minutes
Kyoko FUKADA, the popstar who starred in Takeshi KITANO’s Dolls, redefines the meaning of girlpower in a mad ode to -or is it parody- on Japanese pop culture. Lolita girls, tough motorcycle gangs, nothing feels out of the ordinary in this energetic flick. Candy colors burst from the screen while the hectic editing thrusts the story into an uncompromising frenzy. Bizarre animation sequences intersect the unique fantasyworld, turning this into a combination of Kill Bill and Survive Style 5+. Time out to breathe? Not part of NAKASHIMA’s vocabulary.
